Subject: Code-words and Hannukah
A few things:
1)Thanks to Prof. Harding regarding KITTIM as a codeword. I guess what I
was driving at was a whole new look at the Scrolls based on the idea that
indeed Kittim refers to Romans, and the Liar, etc. are code words for
people the author did not publicized at the time of the ROMAN occupation,
which (!) would touch upon my issue of the chronology. By the way, how many
years AFTER the death of the Teacher of Righteousness (whenever that may
have been) did his followers author their writings? Also, how did Prof.
Thiering get to her dating of some of the scrolls to the decades around the
destruction of the Temple?
2) Re Hanukkah. Since Maccabees does not mention the miracle of the
menorah, is it possible sectarians recognized the Hasmonean victory as a
day of celebration while rejecting the "Pharisaic" injunction to light the
candles in recognition of the menorah?
