Subject: Samaritanism, Karaites and Scrolls

Has any serious study been done comparing Samaritanism, and specifically
their Torah with the scrolls?

Also, what do people think of the book by Naftali Wieder on the Scrolls and
the Karaites? I perused it and found his points of comparison to be rather
interesting. Is their room to believe that the Jews who became Karaites
belonged to families whose religion was either Saduccean or connected to
the religion of the authors of the scrolls??
