Orion friends,
UCLA has a new position in Jewish Studies. The rank and specialization
are open. That is to say, we would consider someone with expertise in
Scrolls so long as they were also able to teach a broad spectrum of
undergraduate courses in Jewish Studies. The advertisement is attached

POSITION IN JEWISH THOUGHT
The Department of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures at the University of
California, Los Angeles announces a tenure-track position in Jewish
Thought, effective July 1, 1998. The level of appointment is open and
applications are encouraged from all ranks. Candidates must display
evidence or promise of a distinguished research and teaching record. The
teaching load will be split between undergraduate and graduate instruction,
and candidates will be expected to teach a broad spectrum of courses in
Jewish culture and literature, including a general introduction to Judaism.
Active participation in the variety of programs coordinated by the UCLA
Center for Jewish Studies is also expected. While the candidate's research
focus is open, candidates must show a control of Rabbinic and Talmudic
literature.
Applications containing a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and the
names of three referees should be directed to the Chair of the Search
Committee for Jewish Thought, Department of Near Eastern Languages and
Cultures, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1511. Deadline for applications is
December 1, 1997.
