orion-list stains seen when scrolls first x-rayed

Boqer tov,
I am a librarian at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and one of our
professors has asked me to verify a story concerning the Dead Sea Scrolls.
I have not been able to find any reference in our collection and
Dr. Pinnick suggested asking this list.

When the scrolls were first x-rayed, rings (or stains) of a copper-based
substance were found on them. No one knew what these rings were until,
sometime in the mid 1950s, they were explained. A man by the name of Zvi
Saltiri or Salitiri said that he had sprayed the area of the caves against
mosquitoes and the stains were from the spray.
Can you tell me if this story is true, and if so what the facts are?
Thank you very much for your assistance.
