orion-list Re: orion- Eisenman's Contribution ?
I don't think it is fair to say that Eisenman is "off topic." I think
he makes a heroic effort to "integrate" the DSS material into
the surrounding context. Sometimes he is brilliantly correct,
and other times he is just brilliantly creative.
Like some heros, his efforts lead to many battle wounds. And
while I was brought to a completely NEW and PROFOUND
understanding of the intricacies of the DSS materials through
his book on James, I still do not agree with his final conclusion:
...That the Teacher of Righteousness was JAMES and the SPOUTER
OF LIES was Paul. And yet, I look forward to his next effort.
Isn't it a shame that people would think "LESS" of Eisenman's
contribution to DSS research because in his ability to draw strands
of evidence together from all over the ancient world from all sources,
with the DSS as a KEY to the whole problem ....
in a way that might explain the very context of the DSS....
he doesn't LIMIT himself to the DSS ! ! !
Irony is something that is ageless.
