Depository of scrolls, that we know because we found scrolls in 
them.  The question that needs answering is why.  Homes for 
hermits?  I doubt it.  Fact is, if there were any "hermits" at 
Qumran, which I don't think so, it's more than a bit unlikely that 
they lived in caves.
