Also, it is a false myth--unfortunately, a widespread one--that the
Semitic Vorlage of Greek forms of "Essenes" does not appear in Qumran
texts. This myth should be seen as a misleading response to the absence as
self-designations of the two wrong Aramaic guesses (xasayya and 'asayya)
which was created both by opponents of recognizing the Qumran-Essene
association (e.g., K.H. Rengstorf) as well as by proponents (e.g., G.
Vermes).
