orion note from the moderator
Dear Orion su bscribers,
I spent this morning checking the archives and it appears that David
Suter is correct. (The archives are available at
http://orion.mscc.huji.ac.il/orion/discussion.html, archive name
"97.8.25-28". David Crowder seems to have initiated the discussion on
Chinese characters and the findings of Dr. Victor Mair.
Re: N. Altmann's letter. Because we seldom have postings of letters from
non-members, I have never formulated a policy. It appears that some
guidelines are now necessary.
1. Third party postings are permitted only by permission of the original
letter writer (i.e., do not forward a posting from a private individual
on another list to this list without permission; exceptions to this rule
are postings which are considered public, such as conference
announcements, calls for papers, job openings) AND BY PERMISSION OF THE
MODERATOR. I cannot preview a posting once it is sent. You are asked
please to check with me first about posting a message from a non-member.
2. The original writer must, if possible, include an e-mail address so
that replies may be written via private e-mail.
Re: anti-Semitism and anti-Christianity in scholarship. In my opinion,
this is off-topic. Discussion of this issue should be conducted privately.

I really would like to know what is going on here. I reviewed the
archives of Orion, and David Crowder appears to be the one who introduced
the topic of Chinese characters in the Isaiah scroll to Orion in a post
of August 25, 1997. I, of course, stand prepared to be
corrected by anyone who desires to do their own search of the archives,
but it seems to me that the accusation of the theft of intellectual
property is serious and should be investigated by the list moderator.
