It *is* falsifiable on straightforward linguistic grounds, Jim-- and is
also in fact falsified. There are many examples of obvious Daleth - Resh
confusion underlying readings in the LXX, such as many examples of Edom for
Aram--often at the clear expense of the context-- or the reverse. This
would have been quite impossible going the other way, i.e., from Greek to
Hebrew. The same applies to the countless examples of Yod/Waw confusion, to
the LXX inability to represent the laryngals well, while the MT has little
problem in this respect, and so forth.
