Of course the real problem with Jim's idea is not textual but theological
and ideological. Let me give just one example.
The "older" parts of the OT (those written before Alexander) do not have
any developed concepts of heaven or the afterlife. With the advent of the
Greeks in the middle east in late 4th and early 3rd century, these ideas
just blossom, especially in the Apocalyptic and the later Wisdom
literature. Job can speak of "the Satan" without it being the Devil, but a
few centuries later that is no longer possible. What about the loss of
prophecy? and so on.
If the OT had been written in Greek and in a Greek environment, we would
expect a greater consistency in theology, especially in keeping with Greek
conceptions of the cosmos.
