	You might want to have a look at Robert Harrison's "Hellen-
ization in Syria-Palestine: The Case of Judea in the Third Century
BCE" in BA 1994, pp 98-107. Harrison concludes that Judea was not 
thoroughly Hellenized before the middle of the second century BCE.
