Have a look, for the sake of comparison, at the process by which one
became a haver, according to Rabbinic texts, Mishnah and Tosefta Demai,
and esp. at the comparison of these sources to DSS evidence by S.
Lieberman, "The Discipline in the So-Called Manual of Discipline," JBL 71
(1951), 199-206.
This reference overlooks the whole can of scholarly worms associated with
identifying the haverim of the Rabbis, on which there is a very
substantial literature.
In general, I think it would be a mistake to assume that only one group
employed initiation rituals, or that similarities on this point are of a
high degree of significance.
