Gorensenīs answer fails to respond to the simple fact that the reduplicated
"s" in his "essaioi" is not explicable in terms of the phonology and
morphology of standard Hebrew; and the reading of "e" instead of "o" also
lacks all basis in the same categories. The three primary witnesses to the
Essene hypothesis, Josephus, Pliny and Philo, do not know of any "ossaioi".
So Gorensenīs etymological argument is special pleading on behalf of a
specific hypothesis. And thereīs an end to it.
