The only problem with Fred's criteria is that it hereafter is 
impossible to think of an original manuscript. Also the first author, 
the original composer of the text will work from notes and drafts, so 
the final manuscript is not anymore the original manuscript. Fred is 
of course right, I suppose that any perosn who has worked with 
archive material will say so, but it does not in itself prevent an 
original author to have produced a manuscript.
By the way, I think I read somewhere that some of Mozart's notes have 
been found in some faraway library in the Austrian province
, that even this genius worked with drafts and notes.
