As one who now lurks rather than contributes, let me nevertheless break my
discipline, and comment that while Occam's razor is an important
methodological principle in history, the idea that simple descriptions of
reality are more 'correct' is self-evidently false. In DSS as elsewhere
ignorance far outweighs knowledge. By all means let us insist on
methodological rules, but we must always remember that of the many opposing
views being expressed, a large number cannot be contradicted by hard data,
only by appealing to methdological rules. Please, some humility and
tolerance, even when pointing out that others have weaker arguments!
