Those interested in the water level of the dead sea and the general climate
of the area during the roman period may want to look at an article in the
current number of BA (vol 60., no. 2) p. 101ff.

"... researchers have determined that the level of the sea was higher during
the Roman period, thus marking that period as cooler and wetter than the
present" (p. 105, upper left hand photo caption).
