Leontopolis Temple
Regarding the Leontopolis temple, Bob Kraft mentioned some archaeological
explorations about a century ago:
Perhaps he was referring to Petries' findings. He located the temple site
on a artificial mountain a short distance from Heliopolis. His
reconstruction shows the builders attempted to duplicate not only the
Jerusalem temple layout, but the topography of Moriah as well. He has a
fascinating reconstruction (except he misidentifies the Altar as the
foundations of an Antonia-like fortified tower defending the site). It's
worth looking at if only for the curiosity value.
See _Hyskos & Israelite Cities_ by W.M. Flinders Petrie, LN:Office of
School of Archaeology, 1906. At UCLA-URL it's in section DT57.
