Scribes
Emanuel Tov has written extensively on the topic of scribal practices
witnessed in the Dead Sea Scrolls and is currently writing a book on the
subject. I recommend looking at the new bibliography by Garcia Martinez and
Don Parry (Brill, 1996) under Tov's name. There is also an older book by
Martin on Scribal Practice at Qumran.

A friend of mine is interested in publications dealing with the function(s)
of scribes in societies in the ANE, including the scribal profession as
reflected at Qumran (if such existed). Any of you have any bibliographical
suggestions?
In anticipation, thanks!
