jim--all i am saying is that you cannot argue anything from frequency of
citations to what was current in a society-- just that it was or wasnt
the subject matter at hand-- as boswell put it so well-- the map just
aint the territory necessarily. nor can you argue that chanukah was
or was not around in biblical times, strange as it may seem,-- you
need more information than just the fact it wasnt there-- some day a
dane might just say-- i think it is there. indeed someone on ioudaios
has already "found" it there, and even rashi did in prophecy.
But if something is mentioned even once that establishes it--unless
you want to be a scholar and dismiss it as a later gloss if it disrupts
your own hobby horse. but i will agree the more the merrier.
