Why is it assumed that women were not permitted in Qumran? Or at the least
orphaned male and or female childre
The Damascus Document (though a document of perhaps non-monastic groups)
goes into depth in marriage and incest laws. (CD iv-v)(Vermes 86)
In the Community Rule was perhaps the celibute's rule, but they probably
incorporated women and children, but not as members. Perhaps living in tents
not far from the site. There are also many legends of women preserving their
virtue from this period. Certainly they were respected, to say the least, by
others of virtue.
