A good place to start is Eugene Ulrich, _The Qumran Text of Samuel and 
Josephus_, Harvard Semitic Monographs, no. 19 (Chico, CA: Scholars Press, 
1978).  Also: Stephen Pisano, _Additions or Omissions in the Books of 
Samuel: The Significant Pluses and Minuses in the Massoretic, LXX and 
Qumran Texts_, OBO, no. 57 (Fribourg: Universitaetsverlag, 1984; 
Gorttingen: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 1984); also check out various 
articles by Julio Trebolle Barrera in _Estudios Biblicos_ in the 1980's.
