As Jim West put it, Romans hardly liked anything Jewish at that time 
and moment. And soldiers forced to fight down at the dead sea in the 
summer of 86 (if Stegemann and other people are right) would hardly 
have been kind to anybody around ... so if the texts were 
deliberately destroyed, you hardly have to look for  a conscious 
ideology behind - only hatred and frustration. That's how soldiers 
behave ... belive me, I have been it for more than 25 years and have 
seen a lot of wanton destruction even in peacetime (we haven't faught 
many wars recently).
